How to Find a Cheap Hotel for Business Travel

Posted on May 31st, 2008 in business travel by admin

It’s not always easy to find a cheap hotel that you know you would be comfortable staying in. Often, the prices charged in large cities like London, Paris, New York, etc. don’t really seem to equate with the word ‘cheap’.

That said, it is possible to find a cheap hotel. You just need to know where to look!

There are a number of budget hotel chains who offer a good standard of accommodation at an affordable price. These vary by country - you’ll probably know the ones in your own country but if you are travelling abroad, you may need to do some research.

The advantage of using a hotel room provided by one of these chains is that it will be fairly cheap and that you can rest assured that all the standards you expect from a budget hotel room will be catered for.

The disadvantage can be that sometimes the location is a bit ‘out of the way’. Some cheap hotel chains have branches at out of town locations. You may also miss out on the personal service you would expect from a smaller, owner-run establishment.

The next alternative is to look for an individual hotel. Smaller hotels are often run by their owner and this can be a good way to dig out a cheap hotel.

Because the owner is most likely running and looking after the hotel, this means that cheap hotels in the UK can sometimes be like hidden gems. The care and attention you’ll get from a cheaper place can often be much better than you’d get in, say, a mid-range hotel chain. After all, it’s the owner’s livelihood that depends on it, so they’re more likely to make sure everything is just right for you.

Naturally you will want a clean, comfortable room. Since you are on business, you should also look for other things such as an internet connection. More hotels nowadays are offering this facility but you should check what is available and how much it will cost. It’s no fun arriving at a hotel only to find that the only broadband hotspot is already packed with other business travellers. Whilst it is possible to use the latest mobile phones to get an internet connection, they charge by the Mb and this can start to get expensive very quickly.

At the end of the day, it’s probably your business department’s choice what budget you have for overnight travel costs. Of course, if you’re on a tight budget like an increasing number of cost conscious business travellers nowadays, you may not have too much of a choice of where to stay. But with very few exceptions there are almost always acceptable places to stay when you are travelling on business.

Excellent Vacation Adventures at Affordable Airfare Rates!

Posted on May 30th, 2008 in business travel by admin

Traveling especially with your loved ones can ease out
the daily tension brought about by everyday problems
and pressure from work, studies, home and many other
concerns. However the soaring rates and prices of
airfare can pose a problem that can hinder the
realization of traveling to the place you have been
dreaming of. Fortunately, several international
airlines offer packages, special offers and cheap
airfare that can be a great help to achieve the dream
of traveling to world-renowned countries and locations.

Cheap and discounted airfares are offered by several
airlines. Their rates can be checked through the
standard airfare rate to prove if they are really true
to their words or if they only offer false hopes and
bogus prices. The market place has pages on the net to
give information regarding the regular airfare rates
and the travel packages and plans offered by various
airlines. Cheap airfare tickets are also available on
the internet, so shopping for an airfare ticket can be
done in just one click although patience and wise
choosing are needed considering the long array of
agencies and airlines on the internet. Airline sites,
charters, consolidators, courier flights, online travel
sights and travel agents are possible sources of
airfare tickets that can suit one’s budget in
traveling.

Air hitch tickets have inexpensive airfare rates but
the travelers must be ready for changes in departure,
arrival and locations. Big and small airlines nowadays
have on-line sites to show their airfare rates so
access to other possible expenses involved can be
easily found. Charter airfare can cut out expensive
costs but unexpected changes in the time of departure
and arrival can happen which can cause dissatisfaction
and hustling on the part of the traveler.
Consolidators can get the best deals on airfare rates.
The vacant seats on every flight are sold to a
consolidator since airlines must fill the maximum
capacity of the plane. Courier flights can give the
traveler the chance to have added income together with
a cheap airfare. Courier companies make use of the
limit of the baggage to include their packages for
shipping. Travel agents give middlemen services which
serve as the “in-between” of the traveler and the
airline.

Traveling can also be done together with friends, loved
ones, relatives or anyone interested through the Group
Travel privileges offered by some airlines. Instead of
spending the money for airfare alone, bigger savings
can be used for other traveling expenses. Discounted
airfare together with bonus or free airfare ticket is
given for domestic or international group travels. A
group travel agent can be consulted with regards to
airfare rate, hotels, resorts and cruise lines for the
vacation of the group. All airlines have their own
standards to determine the exact airfare and other
expenses involved when traveling to a specific
location.

Business travel airfare expenses can also be handled by
various airlines. Corporate travel does not only focus
on the cheapness of the airfare but also on the quality
of services and initiatives offered. Some business
companies focus on the schedule first, since time is
really of an essence in the corporate world rather than
the cost of the airfare. Corporate travel is a vital
part of the business process to carry out tasks and
responsibilities to ensure growth and development.

How Movies Can Help You Handle the Stress of Business Traveling

Posted on May 29th, 2008 in business travel by admin

Using lessons from movies to improve your life is a good thing that proves that movies can be more than entertainment: they can be our teachers, mentors and friends, keeping us on track especially when we are away from our familiar surroundings. This is how movies can help you battle the stress of business traveling and help you overcome loneliness, homesickness, and the worry that creeps in when things go wrong with your flight.

1. Carry your favorite movies with youand a set of good earphones. Create your portable DVD library, and pop a movie in your laptop when you flight delays keep you stuck at the airport; after a long day of meetings with nothing to do in the evening except drinking at the bar; when you need to cheer up with a good, “alcohol-free”, comedy; when you need inspiration from your favorite movie to face next morning’s meetings; when you miss your kids or spouse and the movies you watch together, back home.

2. Watch international movies to learn about the cultures you visit. If you travel internationally for business take advantage from the hundreds of movies made in the countries you visit. Pick some up before you leave home. They can give you insights into how people interact at home and work, how they dress, what their values are, and how they face conflict, competition and challenge.

3. Watch an American movie in a theater when you are in a foreign countryjust make sure it’s not dubbed, but with subtitles. The benefits from this activity are plenty. First, you get out of the hotel and explore the city. Second, you get to see how big an influence American culture has outside the U.S.A. Third, you observe how people abroad react to a movie made in America, about Americans. Fourth, you get to see a piece of your own culture shown in the context of a foreign country. And fifth, you have a safe adventure that gives you perspectives, keeps you entertained and soothes your homesickness.

Loneliness and homesickness on business trips are inevitable. The best ways to face them is by being prepared for such challenging moments and by knowing what to do when they come.
